introducing YA.C

Monkeys - BPF and I are stoked are the proof in the pudding - or would that be proving the pudding? - lucas lab bonds are strong and steady.  As most of you know Brian and I are friends from the block, but without LucasLab07 there is no way we would be right here, where we are right now.......working at 11 pm on a friday night.  Ha! We are more than happy to announce the first year of Young America . Creative's existence has passed and we are pumped about year two.

Mega thanks to the many of you who helped us thru our first printed + graphic project.  We would be up to our armpits in calendars if it wasn't for our awesome friends.  Seriously.  Special thanks to Nick for the hookup up North, Karl for coming to pretty much every single YA.C event so far, Jake for being the biggest calendar buyer out of the lucaslab crew, although he is neck in neck with Jolynn who gets extra props because she doesn't live in our town but just won't stop buying calendars!  (we love you !!!).  Thanks to Gabe for finding the alley party even tho he went to THE ALLEY first, :) and Kira for making a pit stop in SF just to buy a calendar! Thanks to Jen for coming to visit during out printing weeks when my nerves were on fire, thanks to Enis who literally came out of the woods and bought a couple calendars and is marrying a girl who probably likes them more than he does, and J.hi for being our absolute, very first customer of the year.  You guys rock, all of you, plus all the others that I am forgetting.

And there's more.  Here at YA.C you might think that we just create calendars all day long, but in fact, that's just for the milk money.  What we are really interested in is building.  Architecture of some sort, you may have heard of it but like us, not exactly found it yet.  We created YA.C as an open creative to not limit ourselves to the constraints of being an "architect".  There's more to life than that job title.  We are interested in graphics, branding, fabrication, painting, installation and building.  For a long long long time (way too long) we debated whether the "C" should stand for creative or collaborative.  We went with creative but we really mean for this thing to be a collective collaboration of creatives.  All of ya'll are the best, most creative people we know and we are hoping to be able to collaborate on future commissions with you.  We all speak the same language, and next time we are commissioned to reorganize a space that also may need urban chicken consulting, we will probably call Jenny Hiser.  Or that gigantic cmu block wall in our current remodel project is just calling for a mural proposal from some of the painters and graffiti stencilers we know..... We are just saying, at some point, we are probably going to rope in each and everyone of you tribal members.  Be ready.

Let's rediscover.

LUCAS LAB '07

Why are you reading this?
It has been two quarters short of half a decade since we completed that marvelous adventure under the cautious guidance of Professor Michael Lucas and a lot has happened to each and every one of us.  Some went to work, some went back to school, some entered into a domestic adventure, and some ventured into the woods.
One of the defining qualities of our studio was our never-ending desire for experimentation and exhibition through words, imagery, and fabrication.  And though we no longer feed off of the collective energy of that small room in building 5, I am positive that we still possess the same spirit regardless of our current locations.

What is the point of this blog?
This blog is intended to allow us to scatch up with each other's work - to share installations, renders, projects, etc. with one another so that even if we don't have the opportunity to interact in person at least we can see/stalk our studio and be reminded of how far we've come and how awesome we still are.

So post an image, write a line or two, share a link, and check back every now and then so we can reconnect.
